New Waverly Transportation Receives Platinum Safety Award for Fourth Consecutive Year

Annabelle Blomely- LP Corporate Communication

Our LP team members in manufacturing aren’t the only ones who know a thing or two about being safe. LP’s trucking operation New Waverly Transportation (NWT) practices safety on and off the road, earning themselves a safety award for the fourth year in a row!

The Platinum Award for Highway Safety—described by NWT Logistics Manager Vince Dove as the Super Bowl championship of safety for trucking companies—is hosted by the Great West Casualty Company as part of its National Safety Awards Program.

The Great West Casualty Company, an auto liability insurance partner to NWT, awards motor carriers who have achieved exceptionally low year-end crash results and demonstrated a commitment to promoting safe driving practices and workplace safety within their company. The Platinum Award is the highest bestowed by Great West Casualty Company.

“Receiving the Great West Casualty Platinum Safety Award for the fourth consecutive year is a true testament to the ongoing commitment of every NWT team member to make safety the top priority," Vince said. “I’m incredibly proud and honored to be part of such a professional and dedicated team.”

To receive the Platinum Award, Great West Casualty Company looks at the number of preventable accidents per million miles driven. To qualify, a carrier will typically need to have one or less preventable Department of Transportation (DOT) accidents.

In 2024, NWT trucks ran nearly 10 million miles without a preventable DOT reportable accident, which is equivalent to driving the circumference of the world almost 396 times. Impressively, this is also 1.7 million more miles than they drove last year when they won the same award.

Representatives from Great West Casualty presented the NWT team with their award on June 26 at the LP Nashville office, which also happened to be NWT Safety Manager Dave Jachimski’s last day before his retirement. Dave’s 28-year career at LP was marked by his unwavering commitment to safety, always working to promote its importance and embed it into NWT’s culture.

“I want to thank the New Waverly Transportation team for the opportunity to lead and support a safety program for a world-class trucking company,” Dave said in his final safety message. “Although the industry presented many challenges, NWT consistently rose to the occasion, as evidenced by our outstanding safety record. We received the Great West Casualty Platinum Safety Award for the fourth consecutive year, and during my tenure, we successfully passed two on-site audits from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration—a true testament to the strength of our safety program. Many of our drivers also achieved the Million Mile Safe Driver Award, with several reaching that milestone more than once. And year after year, approximately 90% of our drivers consistently qualify for our Safe Driver Awards, reflecting their ongoing commitment to excellence.”

During the reception, Vince and the NWT team presented Dave with a plaque dedicated to his 28 years of service to LP, as well as a book of photos of Dave throughout the years—one of which included him in a pirate uniform with the catchphrase “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” reminding everyone that safety is no accident.

And there wasn’t a dry eye in the house after Dave said his final goodbye. Luckily for us, he’s left a strong safety culture behind—one that we have no doubt the NWT will continue to live by.

"Dave's leadership and commitment to safety have been instrumental in achieving this level of excellence,” Vince said. “While we will certainly miss Dave, we wish him all the happiness and fulfillment in his well-deserved retirement.”

Please join us in applauding the NWT team for their hard-earned safety award and Dave on his retirement after many great years with LP!
